Cooperation with universities in Beirut and Doha: West-Eastern views on social justice

The Department of Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian Studies is coordinating a three-year DAAD project on academic exchange with the Islamic cultural area. Since 2014, English-language public lectures, workshops, field trips, and seminars on the overarching topic of social justice have been held in collaboration with and alternating between Hamad bin Khalifa University in Doha (Qatar), Beirut Arab University in Beirut (Lebanon), and the University of Cologne. Docents and 12 students from each of the three different regions exchange their various perspectives, for example on the highly current topic of migration. In 2016, the Department of Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian Studies will host the final summer school.
